Based (as is the 'Stage 1' volume) on classroom research, each activity in this book is set out to explicitly highlight the questions of what the students currently know, what is the next step in their learning, how the activities and experiences will help them to learn, and why each step is important. The three main sections are based on students’ increasingly efficient counting and grouping strategies: ‘Counting by ones’, ‘Forming groups’ and ‘Coordinating groups’.
